In this extraordinary live recording of the award-winning A Podcast of One's Own, our host, former Prime Minister Julia Gillard, sat down with acclaimed author and journalist, Leigh Sales.

We brought together two of the most influential voices in Australian public life for our first ever A Podcast of One's Own Live event!

Leigh Sales is one of Australia's most high-profile and respected journalists. She has been the anchor of Australian Story since 2023 and the mentor and host of The Assembly since it launched last August. Previously, she was at the helm of ABC's 7.30 for 12 years. She was awarded an Order of Australia in 2019 for her services to journalism, is the winner of three Walkley Awards (Australia’s highest journalism honour), and the author of four books – Detainee 002, On Doubt, Any Ordinary Day and most recently, Storytellers, which was published in 2023.

Over the course of her prestigious career, Leigh has interviewed every living Australian Prime Minister, and innumerable world leaders and celebrities. At this event, we turned the tables as she was interviewed by Australia's first female prime minister, Julia Gillard. The pair discussed Leigh's remarkable career, her experiences interviewing world leaders and cultural icons and the power of storytelling and journalism in shaping public debate. They also shared their reflections on resilience, media scrutiny, and the challenges and opportunities facing women in leadership.
