Meet your hosts

Julia Gillard
Julia Gillard was the 27th Prime Minister of Australia – the first and only woman to hold the role.
She founded The Global Institute for Women’s Leadership to eradicate structural barriers preventing women and gender diverse people from taking on leadership roles – be that in politics, business, media, sport, or beyond.
A Podcast of One’s Own was created to shine a light on the work of remarkable women and gender diverse people from around the world – whether they are dismantling barriers or forging new paths in their fields. As host, Julia sits down with these trailblazers to hear their stories and share their ideas. As an avid reader, she also champions female-authored fiction in Julia’s Book Club, which she co-hosts alongside Kathy Lette and Sarah Holland-Batt.
Beyond GIWL, Julia is Chair of Wellcome, a global charitable foundation advancing science to tackle urgent health challenges. She recently led the Royal Commission into Early Childhood Education and Care in South Australia, and is the author of three books: My Story, Women and Leadership, and Not Now, Not Ever.

Kathy Lette
An internationally bestselling author and one of the pioneering voices of contemporary feminism, Kathy has built a career on saying the unsayable – always with a punchline.
She first caused a sensation at just 17 with Puberty Blues, and has since written twenty novels published in nineteen languages, cementing her reputation as a fearless (and very funny) observer of modern life.
Her career has taken her everywhere, from fronting a band to writing sitcoms in LA, penning columns in Sydney and New York, and authoring beloved bestsellers, including Mad Cows and How to Kill Your Husband and Other Handy Household Hints. Along the way, she’s picked up honorary doctorates, a cocktail in her name at London’s Savoy, and a knack for turning life’s messiest moments into sharp, joyful storytelling.
A long-time friend of Julia Gillard, Kathy first joined the podcast as a guest before stepping into her new role as co-host of Julia’s Book Club. Together, they bring a lively, thoughtful (and often laugh-out-loud) dynamic to conversations about books, ideas and the world around us, making each episode feel as much like a brilliant chat between friends as it does a must-listen discussion.

Sarah Holland-Batt
An award-winning poet, editor and critic, Sarah is one of Australia’s most celebrated literary voices, known for her precise, powerful writing and deep engagement with the world of ideas.
Her third collection, The Jaguar, won the Stella Prize and multiple major awards, cementing her place at the forefront of contemporary Australian literature.
With a career spanning poetry, criticism and academia, Sarah’s work has appeared in leading publications including The New Yorker, and she has been recognised with some of the country’s highest literary honours, including the Prime Minister’s Literary Award for Poetry. She is also Professor of Creative Writing at QUT, and brings both intellectual rigour and creative curiosity to every conversation—alongside a genuine love of books and the worlds they open up.
Listeners will remember Sarah from her first appearance on the podcast as a guest following her Stella Prize win, where she joined Julia for a rich and memorable conversation about The Jaguar. Now, as co-host of Julia’s Book Club, she returns with warmth, insight and a keen reader’s perspective—joining Julia to explore standout books each month in discussions that are as thoughtful as they are engaging.
