Women in the 2022 Federal Election: will politics be done differently?

THIS EVENT HAS PASSED. The 2022 federal election has been widely seen as a turning point for women in politics – both in the impact of their votes and the record number of women being elected to Parliament. But what will this shift mean for Australian politics?

Will increased diversity in our representatives and the community organising of the teals see politics done differently? Or is this result just an outlier from politics as usual, with these new, diverse politicians in precarious positions facing a ‘glass cliff’?

This event is presented by Global Institute for Women’s Leadership in partnership with the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia and the Museum of Australian Democracy.

Join us and hear analysis from Professor Michelle Ryan – Director, Global Institute for Women’s Leadership at ANU, followed by an expert panel discussion facilitated by Associate Professor Andrea Carson (Dept. of Politics, Media and Philosophy at La Trobe University) with ABC Election Analyst Antony Green, CEO of COMPELL Tharini Apoline Rouwette and Professor Kim Rubenstein, 'Kim for Canberra' ACT Senate Candidate and Director (Academic) 50/50 by 2030 Foundation.
