How can you take part in our internship program?
Our internships are open to Australian National University Students of all academic disciplines via the ANIP and CBE programs, and we also take part in the Australian Indonesian Youth Exchange Program. Find details of all these programs below.
Please note that we are committed to ensuring our internships are compensated fairly, so do not offer unpaid work experience opportunities or take interns from other sources.
Depending on your interests and expertise, we offer two internship pathways...
Research internship
You'll have the opportunity to collaborate with our academic experts on cutting-edge research. Previous intern research projects have included the intersection of gender and artificial intelligence, the representation of female politicians in news media, the economic and social dimensions of the care economy, diversity in outer space, and gendered tech-based abuse. Some of things you could be working on in this internship include literature reviews, data analysis, and the development of research findings into practical resources.
Professional internship
You'll support our communications and marketing activities, assist with translating academic research into accessible resources and social media content, and organise and execute high-impact events and support with research and delivery of our award-winning podcast, hosted by Julia Gillard. This experience provides valuable skills in marketing, communications, event delivery, and project management.

Australian National Internships Program (ANIP)
This program offers a research-based internship for students in their third year or above, including both undergraduates and postgraduates.
Interns participate in a 10-week placement, completing between one and four days per week, depending on their course requirements.
You will have the opportunity to experience various workplace settings, such as Parliament, embassies, government departments, NGOs, and research centres, and benefit from workshops that enhance your research, communication, and policy analysis skills.

ANU College of Business and Economics Internship Program (CBE)
This program will provide you with practical experience through industry-focused projects.
As an intern on this program, you would commit either 120 or 240 hours over 10 weeks, depending on your course credit requirements.
On this program, you will have the opportunity to develop practical workplace skills while simultaneously contributing to meaningful projects that support our research, engagement and advocacy work.

Australian Indonesian Youth Exchange Program (AIYEP)
We also host interns from AIYEP, which brings together young professionals from Australia and Indonesia for collaborative projects. These internships offer a unique cross-cultural experience and AIYEP interns contribute to our efforts to promote gender equality and leadership globally.
